About
Adelaide University Basketball Club
Established: 1947
Principal Activity: Basketball
Affiliations: Basketball Association of South Australia
Official Webpage: www.aubcgriffins.com.au
Sponsor: Rob Roy Hotel, Adelaide
We are one of the oldest senior basketball clubs in South Australia. We offer members the chance to keep both physically and socially active while studying (and far, far beyond in many cases). We have both womens and mens teams playing as high as division three in district competition, as well as social teams catering for all types of player. AUBC annually enters between 10 and 15 teams, and we manage to maintain an active membership base of approximately 100. New members are welcome at any time of the year for both social and district teams.
Logo: As of 1995 AUBC officially took on the name Adelaide Uni Griffins. For those not aware of the meaning, the griffin is a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. It combines the qualities of each, making griffins both respected and feared. We figure it’s a perfect symbol of the ideal basketballer. Now we just have to find someone to live up to it…
Social: The club looks to keep everyone involved with a range of functions including the Freshers Welcome, themed pub crawls, the low key Summer Dinner and the high key Winter Dinner and Presentation Night – including awards for club MVPs, Most Improved, the infamous Rubber Ducks and more!
