Drinkoffs Pubcrawl Aftermath…(from what I remember….)
Friday 16 July the AUBC Griffins embarked on another crusade. This time with the aim being to; out skull, out dance and out last Adelaide’s East End…
The night started at the Unibar where the Griffins crashed the SA Challenge presentation evening. The Griffins boys and girls contributed to Adelaide Uni’s total sports victory by defeating Flinders and UniSA teams the day before! The Unibar was most memorable for the $10 jugs of Boags which helped start the night off!
After a short trek to the Austral –A last minute change of venue – the “Drinkoffs” commenced with Super-Judge Wensley overseeing proceedings.
The first round of “Drinkoffs” were highlighted by:
- An epic sisterly battle between the Westthorp sisters where Jess overcame the age handicap to make it into the next round.
- Mark Scopacasa and Lea Obriens friend (Baseball Cap Guy) – this was arguably the bout of the tournament as there had to be a rematch after the first skull – eventually ‘Baseball Cap Guy’ got the better of Scopa.
- Jason Valentine solidifying the legend that is JV with a performance which stopped the clock at 2.27 seconds
AUBC crew picked up members on the way to Winstons with past
Unigamers making it onto the crawl.
At Winstons the Westthorp sisters decided to play DJ (of course a fight broke out between the two over track selection). However the dance floor began to expand as the Griffins pushed the locals off with various spin-moves.
$50 drink voucher donated by Winstons went to the second and third round of the “Drinkoffs” where dark horse Chloe Lim surprised the bookies by moving into the 3rd round but she stopped there by failing to make it to the starting line. Jane Elliot supported (literally) by her entourage and Lara McCarthy showed what she learnt growing up Tanunda by both making it through to the Finals to be held at Electric Light Hotel.
The boys draw saw some scratchings but into the final went; Wens’ Mate “Dirty Mick” and Lea O’brian’s Mate “Baseball Cap Guy”.
The dance floor was hot, the music retro and the drinks flowing but it was time to move on – that is after Chris McMichael got back to Winstons by catching a bus from Uni…he then got confronted by a random chick as he entered; “where have you been? All your mates
are here… you must suck! I bet you have nothing to do with this pubcrawl…” ahhh nice to meet you too!
ELECTRIC LIGHT HOTEL – THE FINALS
The party continued as players, coaches, friends and family all started to lose control J Adam Humenick fresh off some birthday pre-drinks was enjoying himself, Dave and Lea were doing what they do best and Max Sankauskas was talking shit and we don’t know what John Tonkin, Scott McClusky and Kelly Penn were doing because they weren’t there…
“Drinkoff” finalists; Baseball Cap Guy, Dirty Mick, Lara Mac and Jane were preparing themselves - getting more drinks into them!!!
The stage was set, spotlights on, Pint Glasses at the ready, the crowd was there (kind-of) and finals glory to be claimed.
WOMENS FINAL:
Lara started strong but the pint-glass was just too big as she had to stop before her glass was empty… however it would not have affected the result as Jane Elliot, who had forgotten of the enormity of the moment, smashed her beer acknowledged the crowd and then went and had a victory shot with her team.
Dirty Mick vs Baseball Cap Guy… the heavyweight battle was to begin. As both competitors swayed at the ready a hush fell over the beer garden… Larger pints presented, “3-2-1 Drink” both drinks were completed but the legend of Dirty Mick added a chapter as he took out the mens Drinkoffs.
Thanks to everyone who went on pubcrawl. We made a bit of cash and I know there were some stories from the night. Congrats to Jane and Dirty! Get ready for the next one! Theme suggestions are welcome!
